I do this because I find it quite relaxing. Just dump out a heap of 1x2 bricks and build something. It's also pretty easy to clean up - no sorting needed, unless you get a big enough project that you need more than one color. Warning: so far the projects have used only Megabloks, so purists are warned to look away.
